Welcome to our Meet the Experts series, where we spotlight the talented individuals at Six Degrees Executive and share their insights into the industries they specialise in. This edition features Georgie Keating, our Brisbane based Senior Consultant specialising in Marketing recruitment!

With experience spanning the UK, Europe, Asia, the UAE, and North America, Georgie has developed a global perspective on marketing recruitment. Since joining Six Degrees in 2023, she has built a reputation for her ability to connect businesses with the right marketing talent while offering an exceptional client and candidate experience.

We sat down with Georgie to learn more about her approach, the trends shaping the marketing industry, and her passion for building meaningful relationships.

What inspired you to specialise in marketing recruitment, and how has your global experience shaped your approach?

I’ve always been drawn to marketing as a field. My university studies in communications included marketing subjects, and before I started in recruitment, I worked closely with marketing teams in operations and HR roles. Seeing how progressive marketing had become, particularly with the rise of digital marketing, inspired me to move into an agency specialising in digital and e-commerce recruitment.

Having worked across diverse global markets, I’ve gained a broad understanding of the marketing function. Each region brings its own nuances, but the common thread is the importance of aligning the right skills and personalities with the needs of the business.

Since joining Six Degrees in 2023, what has been your proudest achievement in building the marketing function in Brisbane?

Aside from placing well-suited candidates into roles where they can thrive, I’m incredibly proud of the relationships I’ve built. There’s nothing more rewarding than having candidates turn into clients because of the experience they’ve had or clients who continue to trust me with their recruitment needs.

One personal highlight was winning the Sourcr award for Best Marketing Recruiter in Queensland last year. It was touching to be recognised by my network of clients and candidates - especially in such a competitive market.

What trends are you seeing in the marketing industry, and how are they influencing the roles and skills businesses are looking for?

The marketing industry is constantly evolving. One major trend I’ve observed since coming to Australia is the move away from hybrid roles where marketing managers are expected to be generalists across all functions. Instead, we’re seeing a growing demand for subject matter experts in areas like digital media, paid social, and e-commerce.

As marketing teams grow to include these specialised roles, businesses are increasingly looking for professionals who can drive change in specific areas while collaborating effectively across the organisation. Sales and marketing teams are more interconnected than ever, and having experience working alongside sales is becoming a must-have for many marketing roles.

What qualities and skills do you believe are essential for marketing professionals to succeed in today’s fast-evolving landscape?

From both a quality and skills perspective, I believe it comes down to eagerness to learn and willingness to get stuck in and do the work. Marketing is constantly evolving, and like any industry, recruitment landscapes have their ups and downs. Keeping your skillset relevant and being able to work hands-on—not just strategically—will ensure you remain an in-demand and successful candidate.

What advice would you give to candidates looking to position themselves for success in the marketing industry?

Digital is your friend! While there will always be a need for traditional marketing roles, having digital capability - or at least a solid understanding of it - will only strengthen your appeal in the market. Additionally, don’t overlook your personal brand. Use LinkedIn, stay connected with your network, and don’t be afraid to share your achievements with the world.

You’re known for being a true brand and candidate advocate. How do you ensure a seamless experience for both clients and candidates, and why is this so important?

For me, the customer experience - whether it’s for a client or candidate - is everything. I believe in over-communicating, even if there’s no significant update, to ensure everyone feels supported and informed throughout the process.

It’s also important to remember that as recruiters, we’re unofficial ambassadors for the clients we represent. Any interaction a candidate has with us reflects on the client’s brand, so I strive to ensure every experience is positive and professional. In a small market like Brisbane, word of mouth is powerful. A great experience can lead to referrals and new opportunities, while a poor one can have the opposite effect.

How do you help businesses find the right marketing talent, particularly in a competitive market where quality is key?

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, but it all starts with listening. Understanding not just the technical requirements of a role but also the cultural fit and personality needed for the team is critical.

I also believe in honesty—being upfront with clients and candidates ensures that the right match is made. While it might take longer to find the perfect fit, it’s worth it in the long run for both the business and the individual. For me, it’s always about quality over quantity.

What do you find most rewarding about your role as a marketing consultant in Brisbane, and how has your experience at Six Degrees shaped your career?

The most rewarding moments are seeing the impact of a great placement. Whether it’s a candidate making waves in their new role or a client transforming their business with the right hire, knowing I’ve played a small part in that success is incredibly fulfilling.

Six Degrees has given me the tools and support to succeed in the Australian market. From inheriting a well-managed desk with strong existing relationships to collaborating with colleagues across the business, I’ve been able to hit the ground running and continue to build my network.
