E-tailing' and the race to find the best digital talent
By: Suzie McInerney
In the face of increasing competition from international electronic retailers (e-tailers), many Australian retail businesses are on the hunt for talented digital, online and customer relationship manager specialists to develop their online selling capability. Suzie McInerney, Head of Six Degrees Retail reports...
A study undertaken last year by the Australian Centre for Retail Studies at Monash University has found that some 78% of Australian retailers surveyed expect to develop their online selling capability over the next 12 months, with many concerned about the impact of online international competitors on their businesses.
Email marketing, search engine marketing (a form of Internet marketing that aims to promote your website by increasing its visibility in search engine result pages), and search engine optimisation were all rated as more important than traditional media for future marketing plans.
The rush by businesses to secure the right talent to shape the future of their online advertising, marketing and e-tailing platforms has well and truly begun, as evidenced by the marked increase in online advertising for such roles on job boards such as Seek and My Career.
Six Degrees Retail has commenced a talent mapping study of Australia's best digital marketers, many of whom will be looking to transfer the skills they have gained in digital agency environments to client-side roles as businesses seek to bring digital intelligence in-house and increase resources to support future e-commerce plans.
We are actively speaking with the best digital candidates from both Australia and overseas, as well as industry thought leaders and key retail groups to unearth the best human resource solutions to one of the greatest challenges facing the Australian retail industry.
Six Degrees Retail has successfully placed key senior digital marketing specialists in roles with blue chip retail businesses in recent months and will continue to build on our strengths across this discipline in response to market demand.
