We are currently supporting an early stage, yet pioneering property development business which is about to embark on an exciting period of growth and expansion.  Seeking their first CFO, the organisation prides themselves on their strong commitment to sustainability, community, and innovative real estate solutions.  As an early-stage business, plans are underway to launch their first real estate fund and create a significant platform over the next few years. 

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will be a key member of the executive leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO and will drive the investment management side of the business and be responsible for leading the launch of the organisation’s first fund. Importantly, the role is critical in shaping the organisation’s financial strategy and growth trajectory, focusing on building a robust investment platform that aligns with the long-term vision.

Key Responsibilities
As the business evolves, so too will your role, with your responsibilities including: 
Fundraising and Investment Management:
  • Lead the capital raise for the first fund, targeting institutional investors and ideally leveraging your networks within the real estate investment community.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive investment management strategy
  • Manage investor relations, ensuring transparency, trust, and strong communication with stakeholders and potential investors.
  • Drive portfolio growth, performance, and optimisation to meet and exceed investor expectations.
Financial Strategy and Leadership:
  • Oversee financial planning, risk management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies that support the company’s goals and growth plans.
  • Ensure robust financial governance, compliance, and reporting in line with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and executive team to provide financial insights and strategic direction for the company.
Operational and Development Finance:
  • Manage financial operations for development management and property management arms of the business.
  • Oversee the financial aspects of new project development, including feasibility analysis, funding, and capital allocation.
  • Ensure effective financial management of existing assets and projects to maximize returns and drive profitability.
 Team Leadership and Development:
  • Build and lead a high-performing finance and investment team, fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members to ensure continuous growth and retention of top talent.
Key Requirements for success in the role
Ideally you will possess some or all of the following:
  • A proven track record in raising institutional finance for real estate funds, with experience managing capital raises from large institutional investors.
  • Deep networks within the real estate investment community, ideally with experience in one of Australia’s leading commercial office funds.
  • Exceptional investor relations skills with a strong track record of building and maintaining relationships with institutional investors, stakeholders, and other financial partners.
  • Experience in leading the financial strategy and operations of a real estate development or investment management business.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and governance in the real estate sector. 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a high tolerance for risk and ambiguity, coupled with a strategic vision to build a leading real estate investment manager. 
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to lead and inspire a diverse and high-performing team. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred. 
  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, CA or CFA will be highly regarded.
