About the Role:

As a Public Affairs Officer, you will be responsible for supporting external communications, media relations, and advocacy activities. You will work closely with the Public Affairs Manager to develop and implement media campaigns that promote the organisation's advocacy work and consumer engagement efforts. This role includes creating engaging written and visual content, supporting media outreach, and amplifying the voices of healthcare consumers across various communication channels.
This is a four-month contract role with flexible hours (0.8 FTE or 1.0 FTE), available in either Canberra or Melbourne.

About You:

You are a highly organised and proactive communications professional, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines while collaborating effectively with team members. You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are passionate about using your communication skills to make a positive impact on the healthcare system.

Hard Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in media relations and public affairs, including pitching stories and managing stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills with close attention to detail.
  • Experience with content creation, including basic photography, video production, and graphic design (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Ability to develop written and digital content for websites and social media platforms.
  • Understanding of healthcare consumer engagement and advocacy is highly regarded.
Soft Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build trusted relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • High level of initiative, accountability, and drive to deliver high-quality results.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach to work.
  • Resilience and adaptability when managing competing priorities and tight deadlines.
