Partnering with Kathmandu to support their international expansion

Kathmandu, a leader in outdoor retail, is dedicated to improving well-being through their products and promoting adventure and sustainability.
With a five-year strategic roadmap and international growth agenda, Kathmandu engaged us to recruit across their Digital, Marketing, and Retail Operations functions to support their expansion.
THE CHALLENGE:
We were engaged by Kathmandu’s Chief Commercial Officer and HR Director to recruit for eleven key roles spanning Digital, Marketing, and Retail Operations.
The challenges included:
- Communicating Kathmandu’s values and EVP effectively to attract candidates who aligned with their culture.
- Sourcing talent across diverse functions and seniority levels, ranging from $80K to $300K salary bands.
- Meeting tight timelines to support Kathmandu’s growth initiatives.
- Supporting Kathmandu in pitching for additional funding, requiring market insights to demonstrate the impact of these hires on business outcomes.
Given the size and scope of the project, we assigned two Account Managers to oversee the recruitment project and ensure seamless execution.
OUR APPROACH:
Understanding that Kathmandu’s values were central to their employer brand, we created a 'Candidate Pack' that highlighted not only the roles but also the company’s internal values, culture, and growth pillars. This ensured a clear and consistent message to the market and positioned Kathmandu as an employer of choice.
To drive efficiency and alignment, we conducted:
- Weekly meetings with the HR and P&C teams to provide updates on talent pipelines, market conditions, and potential candidate barriers.
- Real-time market insights and candidate feedback to refine messaging and candidate targeting.
- Proactive candidate engagement through our specialist digital and retail marketing networks.
Over a four-month period, we placed all eleven roles, leveraging our deep market knowledge and extensive talent pool. Additionally, our data-driven insights helped Kathmandu secure additional funding to support further growth initiatives.
RESULTS:
The team successfully recruited eleven key roles within four months, enabling Kathmandu to execute their strategic growth initiatives.
With broad functional coverage, we placed candidates across diverse roles, including:
- Head of Marketing AU & NZ
- Head of Loyalty & Personalisation, PR & Influencer Manager
- Social Media Manager ANZ & various digital & graphic design roles
- Loyalty Manager & Loyalty Analyst roles
- Campaign Project Manager
- VM Coordinator & VM Specialist roles
