Partnering with HazardCo: Expanding into the Australian market

HazardCo, a Workplace Health & Safety provider serving the construction industry, partnered with us to scale their Australian operations. Having previously operated solely in New Zealand, they faced the challenge of building their entire Australian team from scratch to meet ambitious growth targets.

Over two years, we placed 34 roles, enabling HazardCo to achieve 600% headcount growth and establish a leadership team that continues to drive their success.

THE CHALLENGE:

HazardCo had no brand equity in Australia and operated within the niche construction technology sector - a vertical that wasn’t front of mind for most candidates. Their target was aggressive: achieving 200-300% year-on-year growth in customers and revenue. The roles required candidates with a unique blend of tenacity, entrepreneurial spirit, and industry alignment - people who could thrive in a fast-scaling environment with limited market awareness.

Additionally, HazardCo needed support defining their Australian market presence. They lacked position descriptions, organisational structures, and an Employee Value Proposition (EVP) to attract top talent. Our challenge was not only to recruit high-calibre candidates but also to act as a strategic partner in shaping their Australian hiring framework.

OUR APPROACH:

Working closely with HazardCo’s Group CEO in New Zealand, we built a deep understanding of their vision and what was required to bring it to life in Australia. Leveraging our extensive talent network and industry expertise, we sourced candidates with the drive and agility to meet HazardCo’s rapid pace of growth.

Beyond filling roles; we partnered with HazardCo to build their recruitment strategy, providing:

  • Salary benchmarking insights and job descriptions -  ensure competitiveness in the Australian market.
  • Organisational structure recommendations to support sustainable growth.
  • Development of their EVP with real-time market feedback on candidate sentiment.
  • Data-driven insights on candidate preferences, such as remote work and career pathways.
  • Sourcing from adjacent markets, such as real estate and small tech, to uncover untapped talent.

The team placed 34 roles, with 15 roles filled in just nine months building HazardCo’s Australian operations from the ground up, and resulting in a 600% headcount growth achieved over two years. Six Degrees exclusively hired the entire Australian leadership team, including their first employee!
